  • Australia's population continuously prospered during the gold rush. It tripled during the first few years after Edward Hargraves found gold near bathurst, in 1851.
  • By 1871, there were 1.7 million people living in Australia.

Prospectors are people in search for gold.

Where did they come from?

Prospectors came from China, Europe, New Zealand, Canada and Australia.

How did they get there?

Miners came by ship if they were travelling to Australia from overseas. On land, prospectors either came by foot, horse back, coaches, carts and wagons. Bullocks also played a big role of transport during the gold rush.
